Truflation expands data coverage for its flagship inflation indexes.
Your real-time, on-chain inflation data just got even stronger.
We're excited to announce enhancements to the Truflation index with new high-quality data providers across three key categories. These ongoing expansions to our data coverage improve data breadth and index resilience while reducing potential biases, delivering even more accurate, real-time insights into inflation trends.
This update includes the addition of 5 new data partners across three categories: Housing, Education, and Health Care.
As part of our protocols, each new provider is meticulously researched and verified to ensure its data quality and benefits for being added into the Truflation US CPI Index.
These new data partners will not only enhance the accuracy of measuring inflation for the Truflation US CPI Index but will, as a result, be added into the Truflation BLS CPI Inflation Index and the Truflation BEA PCE Price Index.
What was the impact of the Truflation US CPI update per category?
Housing → Owned Dwellings → Complete Mortgage Costs
Truflation has added 3 new data providers to the price measurement of mortgage repayments, in particular 30 year and 15 year fixed mortgage rates and the monthly mortgage repayment amounts.
This data is being added to our already comprehensive measurement of Owned Dwelling that incorporates mortgage rates, mortgage duration, down-payment amounts and property values. This provides a more robust and representative view of owned housing inflation dynamics.
The impact of this change, i.e., comparison of new vs existing, is +1.56% on the Housing category YoY and, in effect, +0.32% on the Truflation US CPI YoY.

Medical Insurance
Truflation added an additional provider for the measurement of Medical Insurance, which is one subcategory of the Health Care category. This provider tracks over 1869 institutions offering health insurance in the U.S., effectively doubling our current data coverage for this subcategory.
This new data addition strengthens our measurement of healthcare cost pressures, capturing more comprehensive data on premiums and coverage changes.
The impact of this change is -3.07% on the Health Care category YoY and -0.18% on the overall Truflation US CPI YoY.

Education Fees
Truflation has also added a new provider for education fees (tuition and related costs). This addition refines our tracking of educational inflation, offering better granularity on rising costs in schooling and higher education.
The impact of this change is 0.97% on the Education category and +0.02% on the Truflation US CPI.
What was the upgrade impact on the overall Truflation US CPI (not counting other fluctuations)?
Overall, across 3 categories, the total impact on the CPI index was +0.16%, while the previously published historical data remain unchanged on our website and charts.
How did we update the current weighting and methodology to fit in new large data providers?
Each data source's relative weighting for its category or sub-category is calibrated against existing sources and is determined using three equally weighted components:
- Number of items tracked: Data sources covering a larger number of individual items receive a higher weighting.
- Data representativeness, which is based on geographic coverage, population coverage, and contribution to national sales within the category and
- Data collection methodology where the weight is adjusted to reflect the robustness of data collection.
Truflation’s updates reflect our ongoing commitment to transparency, data diversity, and delivering the most reliable alternative inflation metrics available.
