Truflation Argentina CPI – The Upcoming 2026 Weight Update
Truflation is pleased to announce the completion of the annual review and approval of updated expenditure weights for the Truflation Argentina CPI Inflation Index.
The Truflation CPI Board has reviewed the latest available data on Argentina's household consumption patterns and approved the updated weights. These changes will take effect on May 14, 2026.
Impact of the Changes on the Headline Index
The overall impact on the headline index remains minimal. The net effect on year-over-year inflation is a small increase of +0.16%, while index-level trends remain highly consistent with the previous series (correlation above 0.99 across the overall index and affected categories). This recalibration is a standard methodological improvement and does not reflect new price movements.
Additional Integration of New SEPA Supermarket Data
As part of this year’s annual weight review, we have incorporated new daily pricing data from SEPA across seven key categories: Food, Transportation, Household items, Alcohol & Tobacco, Clothing, Recreation & Culture, and Other.
This integration enables us to:
- Completely replace previously used data in four categories (Food, Household items, Alcohol & Tobacco, and Other) with SEPA data.
- Increase data provider coverage in three additional categories (Transportation, Clothing, and Recreation & Culture).
Following the update, SEPA data now represents 18.4955% of the total index weight. This has reduced reliance on official Argentine government data by 8.167%, bringing the overall government data share to 64.2768%.
The addition of direct supermarket pricing improves the timeliness and granularity of the index while preserving strong continuity with historical trends.
Main Changes in the New Weighting Structure
Weights were redistributed using the same methodology applied to prior data providers, ensuring consistency. Detailed category-level shifts are summarized below:

Implementation Details
- The updated weights will be applied to the unfrozen historical dataset starting from January 2026.
- In the frozen dataset (used in charts and dashboards), the new weights will be implemented from May 14, 2026, onward for continuity.
- The index continues to follow Truflation’s transparent methodology: component indices are normalized, aggregated using the updated expenditure weights, and summed to produce the headline figure.
Truflation remains committed to delivering the most timely, independent, and representative real-time inflation data for Argentina. Our Argentina CPI index is updated daily and serves as a valuable complement to official statistics.
The next Argentina Consumer Price Index (CPI) update, covering April 2026 data, is also scheduled for release by INDEC on May 14, 2026.
