Truflation Launches an Independent Benchmark for U.S. Pay Inflation

Truflation is proud to announce the official release of the Truflation U.S. Pay Index (TruPay-US Index), a next-generation measure of pay growth across the American labor market.

Designed as a timely and transparent alternative to traditional wage indicators, the TruPay-US Index tracks overall pay inflation by combining wage growth for job stayers and job changers into a single, comprehensive indicator. It captures the broadest definition of pay, including wages, salaries, bonuses, commissions, overtime, and benefits, providing deeper insight into labor cost dynamics, compensation trends, and their impact on consumer spending, purchasing power, and economic growth.

Key Highlights of the Truflation Pay Index:

  • Dual-weighted methodology: Reflects real labor market behavior with distinct growth rates for job stayers (typically lower growth) and job changers (typically higher growth). Weights are based on recent data (80.6% job changers / 19.4% job stayers as of late 2025) and will be rebalanced annually.
  • Multi-source approach: Aggregates high-quality data from trusted government and independent providers, including the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), ADP, Revelio Labs, Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, Bureau of Economic Analysis, Mercer, and others, ensuring robustness and reduced bias.
  • Monthly updates with a higher-frequency cycle than many legacy benchmarks, delivering more timely signals for businesses, policymakers, and analysts.
  • Base period: November 2020, with historical data available from launch.
  • Calibrated for continuity: Benchmarked against official BLS Average Hourly Earnings while maintaining transparency through documented scaling factors during methodology or source updates.

This index empowers individuals and organizations with better tools for budgeting, forecasting, compensation planning, and understanding the link between wages and broader macroeconomic trends. It complements Truflation’s existing suite of real-time economic indicators, including our flagship inflation metrics and our employment indexes.
