Truflation PCE Divergence Index is Now Live

In a world where inflation data moves markets and shapes policy, timing is everything.

Today, Truflation is proud to launch the Truflation BEA PCE Divergence Index (TruPCEDIV), a powerful new tool that shines a real-time spotlight on the gap between official BEA PCE numbers and Truflation’s PCE index.

While the Federal Reserve’s preferred PCE gauge remains the benchmark, our high-frequency TruPCE Index, built from millions of live prices, is a better depiction of what’s actually happening in the economy right now.

The Truflation PCE Index (TruPCE) is calculated using Truflation’s real-time transaction data mapped onto the BEA’s categories and relative importance weights, to offer a PCE index that’s more accurate and grounded in reality.

The Truflation PCE Divergence Index (TruPCEDIV) calculates the differences between the Truflation PCE and the BEA PCE, showing how much the latest BEA releases differ from Truflation on a daily basis.

Why TruPCEDIV Matters

Truflation’s PCE Index, built from over 15 million live price points across 30+ independent data sources, has consistently shown an average 29-day lead over the official BEA PCE, with the lead varying depending on the current inflation regime (i.e., rising, decreasing, or stable inflation). While the Truflation CPI preceded the BEA PCE by an even longer period.

The new TruPCEDIV Index quantifies and normalizes this divergence in real time, giving users a clear, actionable signal of when real-world inflation pressures are accelerating, easing, or diverging from the narrative reflected in government statistics.

This isn’t just another inflation tracker; it’s a trend change detection tool. It highlights periods when market-relevant inflation is ahead or behind official readings, often foreshadowing shifts in Fed policy expectations, volatility regimes, and asset-class performance.
